Information

The European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery (formerly known as The Joseph Society and as the European Academy of Facial Surgery) was founded in 1977. Its objectives are to stimulate training, research and scientific advancement in the field of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Membership is drawn from all interested specialities with expertise in facial surgery both within Europe and further afield. The official language of the Academy is English.

The Academy has been involved with the European Community in identifying Facial Plastic Surgery as a discrete entity and is active in promoting appropriate training schemes for trainees in the specialty of facial plastic surgery. The Academy aims to stimulate a high standard of facial plastic surgery within Europe through a certification process. There are almost 700 members and membership continues to grow. Each year high quality courses and meetings are convened by the Academy.

There is a Fellowship Programme which places successful candidates in centres of excellence throughout Europe. Following this the Fellows sit the exam of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. This is the only validated exam in facial plastic surgery anywhere in the world. The exam is reviewed annually and administered in accordance with "Standards for Education and Psychological Testing" prepared jointly by the American Education Research Association, the American Psychological Association and the National Council on Measurement in Education.

The European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery is affiliated to the International Federation of Facial Plastic Surgery Societies.

With kindest regards,
yours sincerely,
